1. Purpose of the Policy

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that potential conflicts of interest are identified, disclosed and appropriately managed throughout the publication process.

Advanced Scientific Research recognizes that authors, reviewers, editors and other participants in scholarly publishing may have relationships or interests that could influence, or reasonably appear to influence, their professional judgment.

Core Principle The existence of a potential conflict does not necessarily mean that misconduct has occurred. Transparency and appropriate management are essential to protecting the integrity of the editorial and peer-review process.

2. What Is a Conflict of Interest?

A conflict of interest exists when personal, financial, professional, academic or other relationships could reasonably be perceived as influencing a person's objectivity, judgment or decision-making in connection with a manuscript or publication.

Conflicts may be actual, potential or perceived. Advanced Scientific Research encourages disclosure whenever a reasonable reader could consider an interest relevant to the research or editorial decision.

Transparency Rather Than Assumption Disclosure of a potential conflict allows editors and readers to evaluate the circumstances appropriately. Disclosure does not automatically imply that the research or individual is biased.

3. Types of Potential Conflicts

💰

Financial

Funding, employment, consultancy, grants, ownership, investments or other financial relationships relevant to the work.

👥

Personal

Family, close personal relationships or other circumstances that may affect impartial judgment.

🎓

Professional / Academic

Competitive, collaborative, supervisory, institutional or other professional relationships.

🏛

Institutional

Relationships with universities, organizations, research institutions or other bodies that may be relevant.

📜

Intellectual Property

Patents, copyrights or intellectual property interests related to the research.

⚔

Competitive Interests

Direct academic or commercial competition that could reasonably affect judgment.

📢

Public or Advisory Roles

Relevant advisory, governmental, organizational or public roles connected with the subject of the manuscript.

4. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are responsible for identifying and disclosing relevant conflicts of interest at the time of manuscript submission.

Authors should disclose, where applicable:

  • Financial relationships relevant to the research.
  • Research funding and sponsorship.
  • Employment or consultancy relationships.
  • Relevant patents or intellectual property interests.
  • Professional or personal relationships that could reasonably appear to influence the work.
  • Any other relevant circumstance that could affect interpretation of the research.
Author Declaration Authors should provide a clear Conflict of Interest statement with every manuscript where required by the journal.

5. Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers

Reviewers must disclose any relationship or interest that could interfere with an impartial assessment of a manuscript.

Reviewers should decline the review when they have a significant conflict that prevents objective evaluation.

Reviewers should disclose potential conflicts involving:

  • Close personal or professional relationships with the authors.
  • Recent collaboration with an author where impartiality may reasonably be questioned.
  • Direct academic or commercial competition.
  • Financial or institutional interests related to the manuscript.
  • Any other circumstance that could reasonably affect the review.
Confidentiality Reviewers should not use unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal advantage or disclose manuscript information without authorization.

6. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors must maintain editorial independence and avoid making decisions where their personal or professional interests could compromise impartiality.

Editors should disclose relevant conflicts and, where appropriate, transfer responsibility for a manuscript to another qualified editor.

⚖

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions should be based on scholarly merit, relevance, quality and ethical standards.

🔒

Confidentiality

Editors must protect confidential manuscript information throughout the editorial process.

🔄

Recusal

Editors should recuse themselves when a significant conflict could affect or appear to affect the decision.

🛡

Fairness

Authors should receive fair and consistent editorial consideration irrespective of institutional or personal relationships.

7. Responsibilities of the Publisher

The publisher supports the journal in maintaining transparent and responsible publication practices.

The publisher should avoid commercial, financial or institutional influence that compromises editorial independence.

Where a significant conflict becomes relevant after publication, the journal may consider an appropriate correction, disclosure, Expression of Concern or other editorial action depending on the circumstances.

8. Disclosure Procedure

Potential conflicts should be disclosed as early as possible and preferably at manuscript submission or reviewer invitation.

9. Management of Conflicts

Depending on the nature and seriousness of a conflict, Advanced Scientific Research may take one or more appropriate measures.

  • Request additional disclosure or clarification.
  • Assign the manuscript to an alternative editor.
  • Select an alternative peer reviewer.
  • Request additional independent review.
  • Publish an appropriate disclosure statement.
  • Seek clarification from the authors or relevant institution.
  • Consider post-publication action when a previously undisclosed conflict materially affects the publication record.
Proportionate Management The appropriate response will depend on the nature, relevance and potential impact of the conflict.

10. Undisclosed Conflicts of Interest

If Advanced Scientific Research becomes aware of a potentially significant undisclosed conflict after publication, the editorial office may investigate the matter.

Depending on the findings, the journal may request a correction or disclosure statement, publish an Expression of Concern, or consider other action under its publication ethics and retraction policies.

Serious Non-Disclosure Failure to disclose a material conflict does not automatically establish research misconduct, but deliberate or consequential non-disclosure may require further investigation and appropriate editorial action.

11. Appeals and Reconsideration

Authors, reviewers or editors may provide relevant information if they believe that a conflict has been incorrectly identified or assessed.

Requests for reconsideration should clearly explain the circumstances and provide supporting information where appropriate.

The editorial office may seek additional information before making a final determination.

12. Conflict of Interest Declaration

Authors should include an appropriate declaration in the manuscript. Where no relevant conflict exists, authors should provide a clear statement indicating this.

Suggested Author Declaration

"Conflict of Interest: The author(s) declare that there are no conflicts of interest that could have influenced the research, interpretation or publication of this manuscript."

Where a conflict exists, the declaration should clearly describe the relevant relationship or interest.

Funding Disclosure

Authors should also disclose relevant sources of financial support, grants, sponsorship or institutional assistance associated with the research.

Transparency Commitment Advanced Scientific Research encourages complete and accurate disclosure so that editors, reviewers and readers can appropriately evaluate the context in which research has been conducted and published.

Advanced Scientific Research Commitment to Editorial Independence

Advanced Scientific Research is committed to ensuring that scholarly decisions are based on academic quality, originality, methodological soundness, relevance and ethical standards rather than personal, financial or institutional interests.

Transparent conflict-of-interest disclosure strengthens confidence in the peer-review and publication process and helps preserve the integrity of the scholarly record.

Responsible and Transparent Publishing
